These are preferences for your worksheet. They do not filter live listings or establish what is available within a neighborhood.

What the guides tell us.
These descriptions summarize the historic and architectural sources already cited in each guide. They describe recorded building patterns, not current listings or the characteristics of every house.
Building context
Bywater
City guidance identifies single and double shotguns as the most common building types in the district. Most residences are described as one-story wood-frame buildings with gabled or hipped roofs.
Faubourg Marigny
The district's residential character is dominated by one-and-a-half-story Creole cottages and one-story shotguns. Shotguns occur in two-, three- and four-bay configurations, including examples with side halls or galleries.
Area & boundary context
Bywater
The official historic-district boundary runs roughly from the Mississippi River between Press Street and Poland Avenue, with an irregular lakeside edge around St. Claude Avenue. Use the City's map for the exact parcel rather than treating every property marketed as Bywater as part of the same boundary.
Faubourg Marigny
The City describes the historic district as bounded by Esplanade Avenue, St. Claude Avenue, Press Street and the Mississippi River. That designation boundary is more precise than broad marketing use of the word Marigny.
Question for your visit
Bywater
For a narrow-lot single or double, how do front-to-back circulation, outdoor access and the present unit arrangement work for you?
Faubourg Marigny
Is the property a shotgun or another cottage form? Does a sidehall or gallery provide the independent room access you need?
